Remember back in the day, circa like 2005, when having an MP3 as a ringtone was all the rage? For a while, Polaris's "Hey Sandy" was my default ringtone. When someone would call me, the room would go silent and everyone would be like "Is the Pete & Pete theme song your ringtone?" Hell yes it was.
I loved "Pete & Pete." At the age of 10 or so, there was nothing better than coming back from the pool in the summer, about 5 o'clock, and chillin' on the couch with a grape popsicle vegging out to "Pete & Pete" reruns before dinner. Parents didn't really understand it, but kids loved it. It was the epitome of what a really good kids show should be: Adventurous, fun, and really far out. It was every English major's favorite childhood show, mesmerizing the people who "got it" with a sense of imagination and wonder. Think about the character ensemble alone. It was somewhat insane: A twisted kid with a dancing arm tattoo. A trombone-playing older Brother narrator. Artie, the Strongest Man in the World. A cigarette-smoking school crossing guard. A mom with plates in her head that received transmissions from deep Space. Johnny Unitas. Ellen, the Greco-Roman wrestling fan. Michelle Trachtenberg, little Pete's best friend. Mr. Tastee.
